Levi Bean was born in Sheffield, Vermont, October 30, 1831, and died at his home, corner Fourth and Beech streets, September 11, 1916, aged 84 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
In 1858 he came with his parents to Brown County, Ill. Three years later he enlisted in Company G., Third Illinois Cavalry. In his three years' service the most noted skirmish in which he took part was the three days' battle at Pea Ridge. After returning home he devoted a part of his time to teaching in the schools of his vicinity.
On December 15, 1865, he was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Call, who preceded him in death a little over two years ago.
After his marriage, the deceased lived in Brown County until 1881, when they moved to Peoria County. He lived the remainder of his life in this vicinity. He was the father of nine children, eight of whom are living and to all of them he was a kind and loving parent. Besides his children and grandchildren he leaves three sisters.
The funeral services were held at the M.E. church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. M.F. Rainsberger. Burial was at Blue Ridge.
