H. O. Estenson Dies
Death came suddenly to Helmer O. Estenson last Thursday noon. He had gone for the mail and his car became stalled in some mud. He put a sack under the wheel and when the machine would not pull out, he left it and with his neighbor, R. O. Ostlund's mail, went to the Ostlund home. He had just arrived and sat in a chair when he was stricken with a heart attack and passed away. He never complained of feeling ill, always being so cheerful.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Monday afternoon with Rev. I. M. Thvedt conducting. Interment was in the cemetery at Van Hook. The casket was beautifully covered with flowers and the church was decorated with potted plants, $198 in memorials was given for various missions. Music was furnished by Mrs. H. H. Bone, of Van Hook, Henry Westby and a male quartet from Sanish.
Honorary pallbearers were Anton, Theo and Helmer Bangen, R. O. Ostlund, E. B. Larson and Caleb Johnson. Active pallbearers were: Albert Tommerdahl, L. G. Larson, J. L. Shobe, H. A. Jahnke, Ralph Satermo and Adolph Evenson, R. O. Logan was in charge.
Helmer Estenson was born in Climax, Minn, the son of Ole and Pauline Estenson, January 22, 1878, and was 67 years, one month and 23 days old. He was married to Clara Bangen, of Climax, Minn, August 11, 1906. Two daughters blessed this union: Mrs. M. H. Aubol (Irene), of Sanish; Mrs. Cameron Sather (Ramona), Fort Peck, Mont. The Estensons came to Sanish in 1917 and homesteaded in Big Bend where they have since made their home.
Besides his wife and daughters, he leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Strommen, of Climax, and Mrs. Sever Rostvedt, of Newberg; two brothers, John and Pete, of Climax, as well as six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Deceased will be greatly missed in Big Bend township where he was township and school clerk for many years, a charter member and active officer of Grand Valley church. He was always interested in anything of value to his community and also the entire surrounding communities in which he has made his home. He was a friend to all who knew him. The sympathy of all goes out to the entire family.
