Rev. D. L. Foster of the Evangelical Free Church officiated at the services and interment was in the Marathon cemetery. Pallbearers were Kent Rosene, Richard Witt, Robert Witt, Dale Turnquist, Charles Turnquist and Harold Dean Rosene. Nelson Funeral home of Albert City was in charge of the arrangements.
Lillie Della Ricke Smith, daughter of Henry and Mary Miller Ricke, was born May 18, 1890 in Grundy Co., Dwight, Ill. She was 78 years, two months and 17 days at the time of her death. On May 18, 1898 she was united in marriage to William Frederick Smith, and to this union were born ten children, six girls and four boys, a son and daughter having died in early childhood. In february 1901 they moved to Marathon, where they established their home on a farm until they moved into their present home where she spent the remainder of her life until Aug. 16, 1952, when she suffered a severe stroke and became bedfast until her death. Early in life she was baptized and joined the Methodist church. She was a faithful member until illness prevented her from taking part. She was also a member of the Marathon Rebekah Lodge No. 437 for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter and son, her parents, two sisters, three brothers and three grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her passing five daughters and three sons: Harold Smith of Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Charles Turnquist (Myrtle) of Spencer; William F. Smith of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Henry Mortenson (Helen) of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Albert Witt (Frances) of Akron, Mrs. Elmer Rosene (Gladys) of Spencer, Oliver Smith of Spencer and Mrs. LaVern Ebersole (Edith) of Marathon; 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, and other relatives and a host of friends.
