J. F. Ricke Dies of Heart Attack

Rites Saturday for Prominent Farmer

Jess F. Ricke, prominent Torning farmer and a resident of Swift county since 1920, died at his home a mile southeast of Benson at 10:45 o'clock Tuesday night, December 29. Death was caused by heart disease. Although he had not been able to do heavy work for sometime, he was not confined to his home and his death was unexpected. He has been the chairman of the Torning township board of supervisors for the past 12 years and clerk of his school district for six years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, at Pilgrim Congregational church in this city of which he as a member. The Rev. Rol B. Tibbetts of Glencoe, former pastor, will officiate. Services will be held at the home at 1:30 and at the church at two o'clock in the afternoon.

Jess Franklin Ricke was born at Dwight, Ill., on Jan 9, 1887, his death coming 12 days before his 56th birthday. He continued to live at his birthplace until 1902 when he went to Albert City, Ia., and in 1913 he took up his home near Marathon, Ia., where he lived until coming to this community in 1920. He was married to Florence M. Merrill on Dec. 29, 1909, at Marathon, Iowa.

The deceased is survived by his wife and four sons, Wayne at home, Delmar of Benson, Eldon M. of Montevideo, and Lester L., who is farming the Ricke home place. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Carol Ann, David Lee and Margaret Carmen Ricke, two sisters, Mrs. W. F. Smith of Marathon, Ia., and Mrs. Geo. Burkhart of Dwight, Ill., and one brother, John Arthur, living in Arizona.
