MILDRED JOY UNDERWOOD

UNDERWOOD, MILDRED JOY Mildred Joy "Sis" Goodwin Underwood, 84, of Irondale, Alabama, passed into the light of love with Jesus and her passed loved ones early Sunday morning August 19, 2012.

"Sis" grew up in Sterrett, Alabama and lived her life as an adult in Irondale, Alabama.

Her gifts to this world were hospitality and kindness. She was strong but had a gentleness that was apparent to all. She was the one on whom all depended on to get them where they needed to go. She loved deeply, and it showed that she found much joy in being someone's friend. Generosity of self and all she had were earmarks of hers. She had a giving heart. In her heart, mind, and actions, everyone was equal. She treated all with kindness. She did not just talk about being a Christian but exemplified it in her life by the way she lived and the way she treated everyone she came into contact with.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Norris Underwood, her daughter Tanya Eugenia Underwood, brother Roland Alan Goodwin, parents Garvis and Ola Goodwin, and many friends and relatives who are all rejoicing with her at this moment.

She is survived by her daughter Angela Joy Underwood (Octaviano Chimal) of Irondale, her grandson Christopher Shane Ivey (Rachel Kathryn Wilbanks Ivey), her three great-grandchildren Jonathan "Jon" Ivey, Rebecca "Becca" Ivey, and Connor Ivey of Chelsea, her sister Peggy Goodwin Garnett (Ruben Garnett II) of Alabaster, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Services will be at Ridout's Trussville Chapel on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation before services beginning at 1:00 P.M.

Interment will follow in Forest Crest Cemetery. Reverend Bobby Praytor will be officiating.
