Ralph Edward Depperschmidt, age 71, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, August 19, 2012, following a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born May 2, 1941 in Lacrosse, KS to the late Andrew and Veronica Depperschmidt.

Mr. Depperschmidt served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. During his distinguished Navy career, he served three tours in Vietnam, and was awarded numerous personal medals including the Navy Commendation, Navy Achievement with combat V for Valor, Combat Action Ribbon, and The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. He also served three years in the German Navy and was awarded the German Navy Seafarer Ribbon. Before retiring, Mr. Depperschmidt attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer Gunners Mate for his honorable service to our country.

After retiring from the Navy, he had a second distinguished career as an engineer with Ingalls Shipbuilding. He worked on the DD, DDG, CG, SAAR-5, and DDX programs. He retired from Ingalls after 26 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Faye Depperschmidt; three brothers, Alvin, Edwin, & Elmer Depperschmidt; sisters, Anna L. Young and Lorraine Schaffer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Depperschmidt of Lucedale; two sons Carey and wife, Kristie Depperschmidt of Biloxi, and Daryl and wife, Robin Depperschmidt of Hurley; three step daughters, Dee and husband, Bill Lawson of Ocean Springs, Shelli Walker of Houston, TX, and Sandra and husband, Kevin Barnes of Houston, TX; four sisters, Mary and husband, Leland Stietz, Rita and husband, John Liggett, Genevieve and husband, Robert Kreutzer, and Wilma Depperschmidt; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
