She was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Liebenthal, the daughter of Andrew and Veronica Herrman Depperschmidt.
A lifelong resident of Rush County. She was a sales clerk until retiring and was the owner of a cake decorating business for many years. She belonged to St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Altar Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, all in La Crosse.
On Aug. 7, 1945, she married John C. Schaffer in La Crosse. He died Oct. 10, 1991.
Survivors include: a son, Rickey L. "Rick," Wichita; two daughters, Sharon A. Staley, Downs, and Debra K. "Debbie" Haas, La Crosse; two brothers, Ralph Depperschmidt, Lucedale, Miss., and Elmer "Blackie" Depperschmidt, El Reno, Okla.; four sisters, Rita Liggett, Rush Center, Mary Stietz, La Crosse, Genevieve "Neva" Kreutzer, Leoti, and Wilma Depperschmidt, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Alvin Depperschmidt; and a sister, Annie Young.
St. Michael's Catholic Church, La Crosse, with Father Rene Labrador presiding. Burial will be in La Crosse City Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to St. Michael's Catholic Church or for masses, both in care of the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse.
