Jay D. Slipher, brother of Mrs. Laura Lowman of Mulberry, died at 10 a. m. Saturday at a Logansport hospital after year's illness. He was 87 years of age. Mr. Slipher was a life-long resident of Clinton county and farmer, north of Frankfort for 70 years.

A descendant of the pioneer families of Clinton county, Mr. Slipher was born near Mulberry Dec. 2, 1873, a son of David and Hannah (App) Slipher. On Nov. 4, 1903, he married Carrie Etta Smith, who died Jan. 19, 1957.

The deceased man was a member of the First Methodist church in Frankfort.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hankins of Frankfort route 2; a sister, Mrs. Lowman, and the following six brothers, Claude and Edward Slipher of Frankfort, John Slipher of Columbus, Ohio; Elmer Slipher of Zionsville, and Earl and Vesto M. Slipher, the world renowned astronomers of Flagstaff, Ariz. One brother, Markwood, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Frankfort at the Goodwin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lester Knopfmeier officiating. Burial was in the Rossville cemetery.
