Astronomer's Sister Dies At Mulberry

Mulberry- Mrs. Laura B. (Slipher) Lowman, 93, sister of world renowned astronomers Dr. Vestro M. Slipher and Dr. Earl Slipher, and mother of two Lafayette businessmen died in her home here Thursday. She had been in failing health 14 months. Her well known brothers are astronomers at Lowell Observatory, flagstaff Ariz.

Born in Madison township, she spent her life in this community and was married in 1891 to Wilbert E. Lowman who died in 1942. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Bruce A. of Columbus, Ohio, Donald, president of Don Lowman Homes, Inc.and Eugene S. chairman of the board and Treasurer of new Century homes Inc., both of Lafayette; five daughters, Mrs. Fern Harshman of Chinook, Mont., Mrs. Mildred Butterfield of Middletown, Ohio, Mrs. Ruth Miller of St. Louis and Mrs. Dorthy Somerville of Jamestown,and six brothers, Elmer Slipher of Zion, Edward and Claude Slipher of Frankfort and John A. slipher of Columbus, Ohio and the town at Flagstaff, Ariz.
