William farmed the Oakley land southwest of Atlanta near Fife after his father James Madison Oakley and mother Martha Ann (Williams) Oakley passed away. After William and his wife Susan Elizabeth (Mcgarity) Oakley passed,their daughter Minnie Lois Oakley managed the farm for 35 years.
When Lois died the land was farmed by sharecroppers. The land was sold to developers in the 1990's.

Will and Susan had eleven children.
