Zalia Stevens Mallinson, our beautiful, loving, and devoted mother and grandmother returned home to our Heavenly Father on August 8, 2012 at age 99. She passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family.
Zalia was born July 15, 1913 in Ephraim, Utah to Henry Stevens and Elvira Kelson and was the seventh of twelve children. She had an exceptionally close relationship with each of her siblings and loved them dearly. She married Keith R. Mallinson on April 13, 1929 and their union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1953. They were blessed with two children, Dale (deceased at 15 months) and Shirleen. Throughout her life, Zalia had an extremely close and unique relationship with her daughter, as she did with each of her grandchildren.
Zalia was an active member of the LDS Church and had an unwavering testimony of the gospel and of the love of her Heavenly Father. She fulfilled many callings and served in the temple faithfully. Zalia had many talents including being an exceptional seamstress and homemaker, and donated much of her embroidery and baked goods to Bazaars. Her kind heart was evident to all who knew her and her door was always open to anyone. She never missed a family event or celebration, even when her deteriorating health made it difficult.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, infant son, parents, each of her siblings, and her great grandson, Tyler. Survived and adored by daughter, Shirleen (Terry) Hansen, six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren.
The grandchildren wish to express how grateful they are to Mom and Dad for 42 years of devoted service to our grandmother. The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Curo Hospice for their endless hours of tender care for Grandma.
Funeral services for Zalia will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Brighton Stake Center, 2895 East Creek Road (8115 So.), where family and friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
