Mother of Fourteen is Victim of Pneumonia

After battling bravely, first against the flue and then against lobar pneumonia, Mrs. Henry Stevens died at her home here about one o'clock Sunday morning. She had been seriously ill for two weeks, but had not been well since the death of her son, Dale, on March 13, just a month before the mother was called.

The passing of Mrs. Stevens was extremely sad, as she had been an exceptional mother, and there are still three small children who will need her badly, not to mention the rest of the family.

Elvira Kelson Stevens was born in Ephraim, March 23, 1883, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kelson. She was married to Henry Stevens March 29, 1899, and fourteen children were born to the union, five of whom preceded the mother to the grave. She is survived by her husband; her mother, Mrs. Chris Christensen; the following children: Allen Stevens, Ephraim, LaVell Stevens and Mrs. Juliet Aiken, Bingham; Miss Florence Stevens, Ephraim; Mrs. Faye Snelson, Springville; Mrs. Zalia Mallinson, Pleasant Grove; Edna, Leo, and Della Stevens of Ephraim; by two grandchildren, and by the following brothers and sisters: Alma, Isaac, and Henry Kelson, Ephraim; Conrad Kelson, Salt Lake City; Amiel Kelson, Milford; Sidney Kelson, Ruth, Nevada; Mrs. Lil Westerman, California; Mrs. Emma Johnson and Mrs. Esther Castleton, Salt Lake City.

Touching funeral services were held in the Tabernacle Tuesday, with Geo. A. Jorgenson in charge and the singing conducted by Mrs. Bly Beal. Prayers were offered by L. W. Jennings and Enoch Jorgenson. H. E. Jensen, O. L. Hansen, D. N. Beal and Geo. Jorgenson spoke highly of Mrs. Stevens and the family, eulogized her wonderful qualities as a mother, and told of the sacrifices she had made in bringing such a large family into the world.

Special musical numbers were a quintette, "Oh My Father," with Joel Jensen as soloist. W. H. Bailey, Mark Jackman, Olivia Anderson and Armada B. Cox, members, and Mrs. Geneva Peterson, accompanist; and a vocal solo, "One Fleeting Hour," by Venice Paulson accompanied by Ruth Sorenson on the violin and Armada Cox on the piano.

Interment was in the Park Cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Geo. A. Jorgenson. Beside the children and brothers and sisters, the following also came from out of town for the largely attended funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Barney Stevens and family of Salt Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Laura Smart and daughter of Salt Lake; Mrs. Wm. OSborne, Mr. and Mrs. Osmond Osborne, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Osborne, Mrs. Erastus Osborne, Mrs. Simon T. Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Osmer Beck, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Puzey, Spring City; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Aiken and Mr. Goodman Aiken, Bingham; Hazel Aiken, Provo.

The grave was banked high with beautiful flowers sent by loving friends to express their grief at the departure of a mother so faithful and true.
