Liebenthal -- Alfred “Fritz” Depperschmidt, 62, died Thursday Nov. 1 at St. Anthony Hospital, after a long illness.

He was born March 12, 1922 in rural LaCrosse, to John and Bernadina (Werth) Depperschmidt.

He married Viola Herrman May 30, 1949 at Liebenthal.

He was a LaCrosse city employee. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liebenthal, and the Knights of Columbus, LaCrosse. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; five sons, James, Great Bend, Mark, McPherson, Neil, Liberal, Melvin, Wichita, and Paul, of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Resner, Great Bend, and Ruth Schaffer, Arvada, Colo.; three brothers, Eugene, Cicero, Ill., Harold, Wichita, and Patrick, LaCrosse; four sisters, Esther Enslinger, Derby, Louise Rupp and Viola Enslinger, both of LaCrosse, and Vernita Linenberger, Albert; and five grandchildren.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, LaCrosse, Father George Mueller officiated; burial was in the LaCrosse Cemetery.
