John Preston Barton died peacefully in his sleep on March 31st, 2004. John was the first of nine children born to Samuel Preston and Mae (Fowers) Barton. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at the age of 16 helping in the construction of Zion National Park and graduated from Panguitch High School in 1941. John served in the Army during World War II as a medic (TSGT) seeing action at the Battle of the Bulge.

John and Harriett West were married on September 7th, 1946 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple and they spent 57 years together. They were blessed with four children: John (Carla), Kerry (Linda), Barbara (Sam Hill) and Patrick (Sue), 12 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

John received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Utah in June 1950, a member of the first graduating class. He worked at Murray City Pharmacy until 1959 when he became a Pharmaceutical Representative with the Upjohn Co. He had a territory in Albuquerque, N.M. from 1959 to 1968 and Northern Utah from 1968 until his retirement in 1988. He loved helping people and continued to work part-time at Stop and Shop, Washburn, and Plain City Drug until 2001.

John was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities.

John was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the company of his sons and brothers and traveling with Harriett in their trailer. He also loved working in his yard and garden which was the envy of the neighborhood.

John never met a person who didn't like him and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Harriett, four children, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers: Roy (Marietta), Jim (Mary), Keith (Colleen), and sister Merle (David) Ramey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and his parents.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fruit Heights 2nd Ward Chapel, 901 South Mountain Road, Fruit Heights. Friends and family may call Monday, April 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Chapel as well as Tuesday morning 9:30 to 10:45. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So. Sandy, UT
