Mrs. Barbara E. Schlemer, 71, of Edwardsville Route 4 died at 5:25 a.m. today at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton where she had been hospitalized 21 days.
Daughter of the late John and Barbara Sebon Stich, she was born Jan. 13, 1890 in Edwardsville. She was married June 3, 1908 to Edward J. Schlemer at St. Boniface Catholic church. He died June 3, 1955.
Surviving are six children: John and Paul Schlemer, Miss Alvina Schlemer, Mrs. Ralph (Lydia) Blake and Miss Margaret Schlemer, all of Edwardsville, and Charles Schlemer, Wood River; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Brendle and Mrs. Ann Rau of Edwardsville and Mrs. Lydia Primas, Glen Carbon; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Final rites will be conducted at the Straube funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Schmidt, assistant pastor of St. Boniface church, officiating. Interment will be in Buck Road cemetery.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Royal Neighbors of America, Glen Carbon, of which the deceased was a member, will have services at the funeral home Monday, 8 p.m.
