Robert was a Methodist minister. He married Serina S. McGehee on 23 November 1843 in Marshall Co, Mississippi.

They had four known children:
Mary F., Andrew J., Martha E., and William C. Scott.
Desoto Co, MS Probate Court records dated 1 Nov 1852 show that their uncle, John F. Scott, was appointed their guardian. William was born after the 1850 Census, and died prior to the 1860 Census. On the 1860 Desoto Co, MS Census the other three siblings are listed in the household of their grandparents, Nathaniel and Mary Scott.

Available information indicates that Serina died shortly before Robert's death. While Robert's married sister, Mary Scott McNeill, was visiting to help with the children, both Robert and Mary contracted a fatal illness and both died on the same day.

Both Robert and his sister, Mary Scott McNeill, are buried in this cemetery. Robert's wife is likley also buried in this cemetery.

"Cemeteries of Panola County, Mississippi" lists Robert's tombstone in Fredonia Cemetery, with a footnote that it was not found in 1993.
