OBITUARY:
A Pioneer Resident Passed to the Beyond----Mr. William Peters passed away at this home Friday morning, August 24, 1951, aged 92 years. He was born in Cook Co, Illinois, June 18, 1859. When he was two years old, his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Lester Peters moved to Nebraska, making the trip by covered wagon landing in Plattsmouth, Nebraska locating on a farm near Avoca where he grew to early manhood.

On January 24, 1883, he was united in marriage to Sophia Back. To this union were born 7 children. With the exception of a few years, the Peter's family have lived in the Sunny Hill neighborhood where their children grew to maturity.

Fifty-five years ago they moved to their present farm where they have lived continuously. Mr. and Mrs. Peters were privileged to observe their 68th wedding anniversary in a quiet way at their home with a few relatives. Mrs. Peters was a strong, hard-working man. He endured many pioneer day hardships. He loved nature, took pride in tilling the soil and raising livestock. Always interested in farm and home improvements. He often said he hoped he would always be able to work. This wish was granted until a few weeks ago, he was active, doing many tasks about the home and garden.

Mr. Peters was progressive, interested in community affairs. A good neighbor and friend. He was reared in the German Lutheran faith and later, in 1910, he and his wife united with the Congregational Church of Weeping Water. For many years he served as one of the deacons, and when he could no longer be active in that capacity, he was elected as an honorary life-deacon.

The first break in the family circle was the passing of their oldest son, John Peters, of Burwell, in August, 1946, another son, Albert of Sheridan, Wyoming, November 1948, and a daughter, Matilda, of the home, in 1949. He leaves to mourn his passing, his aged wife, 2 sons and 2 daughters, Walter Peters of Sheridan, Wyoming, Mrs. Robert Draver (Irma) of Burwell, Mrs. John Cole (Edith) and Tim of Linden, Kansas, one brother, George, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Relatives who came to attend the funeral of William Peters were Mrs. and Mrs. Tim Peters of Lyndon, Kansas, Mrs. Robert Draver of Burwell, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Draver, Burwell, Mrs. and Mrs. Gordon Draver of Burwell, Mr. and Mrs. Briton Peters of Burwell, Dorothy Draver of Lincoln, Mrs. and Mrs. Carl Brewer and Mr. and Mrs. William Philpot of Arnold, Mrs. Tillie Fewell and Jean, and Mrs. Fred Buck and Julia, of Newcastle, Wyoming, Mrs. William Rapp of Waterloo and Mrs. and Mrs. Wallace Hunter of Omaha.
