Dorothy Louise McCulley, 71, passed away Thursday evening, April 24, 2003, at her home in Hardesty, Okla.
The daughter of Ira Jennings Hale and Maggie Agnes Morris, she was born October 19, 1931, at Range, Okla., at the home of her grandparents, James and Laura Morris.
Her family moved three miles west of Hardesty when Dorothy was a child, and she lived there until she was grown. Dorothy attended Hardesty Schools, graduating in 1952.
When she was young, she loved the out of doors, always doing chores, working in the fields, milking cows and riding horses. During her school years, Dorothy was active in the music department and always loved to sing. She also participated in class plays, but her major activity was basketball! She loved to play and her family, especially her father and sister Pam, loved the game as well.
Dorothy married John Smith on March 2, 1953 and they had two daughters, Linda Doreen and Glenda Lorene. Linda preceded her in death. Dorothy later married Fred Sontag.
She then married Jack McCulley, who also preceded her in death.
After the death of her father, Dorothy moved to Hardesty and then moved in with her mother. Since her mother's passing, Dorothy continued to live in the family home.
Dorothy worked for many years at memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon and she also cared for her grandson, Ray Lynn . She was a dedicated Christian lady, attending every church service and church activity and she loved attending church conferences and revivals, which were held in several large cities.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jack McCulley, one sister, Wanda; three brothers, Clifford, Tommy and Ira Joe; and a daughter, Linda.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda and husband, Mike Witten of Boise City, Okla.' a granddaughter, Dollinda Witten; two grandsons, David Chambers of Amarillo, Texas and Ray Lynn Green of Shay, Okla.; one brother, Leon Hale and wife, Betty of Liberal, Kan.; and two sisters, Lorene Thomas of Borger, Texas; and Pamela Crim of Stanton, Texas. She was also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Apostolic Faith Church in Hardesty with Rev. Kevin Cornel and Rev. Truman Summerford officiating,
Burial will be in the Range Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Apostolic Faith Church or Guymon Home Health and Hospice and may be left in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.
