The names of both Johan and Britha became Americanized to "John" and "Bertha". Their first child was born in Polk county, WI before the family moved to Minneapolis and lived there the rest of their lives. The 1900 census indicates three daughters and the death of one other child. By 1910, the couple had adopted a son.
