Alfred was adopted by John and Bertha Hauge in early 1900. (It is believed that "Author" in the 1905 Minnesota census is Alfred.) He married Bernice Davis 29 Oct 1921 in Minneapolis, MN. She had a young daughter at the time, Lois Devlin, who Alfred helped to raise. He and Bernice had no other children.

From Great Grandson B. Payne:
Alfred's military information:
Private 1st Class
S/N 1114880
Casual Detail, #918 Democratic Glory
Last assigned to 150th Aero Squadron
Enlisted: 31 Oct 1917
Separation: 1 Jul 1919

Note: The 150th was an instructional flying squadron based in Rich Field, Waco, Texas. It was re-designated 'Squadron B', July, 1918 but Alfred was discharged just as that designation change occurred. He never saw action.

Military Information: Pfc, 150 Aero Sq, Air Svc.
