Joseph was a Minder of a Self-acting Machine, which was a multi thread spinning machine the same profession as his father. Joseph was a wealthy merchant and did business in India, where he died while on business. It was to be his last business trip and they could retire early on all the wealth he had accumulated, however, his financial accountant swindled all of Joseph's money and his wife and children became pennyless.
Mary and and their children immigrated to the United States because she had a relative in New Jersey. They arrived Sept. 19, 1921 at Ellis Island according to the Passenger Arrival Records and settled in North Andover and eventually in Lawrence, MA.
Joseph is buried in India, although his name is acknowledged on his wife's gravestone.
Joseph was survived by his wife, Mary Catlow. His daughters, Harriet, Susan, Florence and Esther. His sons, Fred, Tom and Howard Bredbury all born in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England.
