Cornelio was survived by his children: Manuel Herrera (wife Viola), Cornelio Herrera Jr. (wife Marie), George Herrera (wife Laura), Jake Herrera, Corine Flores, Alice Garcia, Edalia Crespin, Rosemary Martinez (husband Joe), and Marilyn (husband Donald); brothers: Flaviano, Lorenzo (wife Emma), and David Herrera (wife Josie); brothers-in-law: Merced and Garcedan Sandoval; and sisters-in-law: Susie, Pita, Maria Herrera, Natividad Drisdale, Ernestina Sandoval, Chana Gomez, and Juanita Misere; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and several god children.
Cornelio will always be dearly loved by those he left behind. He will always be remembered for being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, as well as a friend to many. Cornelio worked for Santa Fe County for several years, but his true passions were planting gardens, farming, and simply being outdoors.
Visitation and Rosary were on 29 January 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambé. Mass of Christian Burial was on 30 January 2008 also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambé. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Nambé. Pallbearers: Manuel Herrera Jr., Chris Garcia, Lisa Rivera, Danny Martinez, Patrick Herrera, and Sandra Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers: Larry Herrera, Gabriel Herrera, Luben and Maria Espinoza, Bobby Flores, and all of Cornelio's grandchildren. A Reception followed the burial at the Parish Hall at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Church in Pojoaque.
