Altie Alley Sawyers, 76, of Galax, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Waddell Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 17, 1929, in Carroll County to Thomas & Mozella Frazier Alley. Survivors include her husband, Swanson Sawyers of Galax; her children & their spouses, Wayne & Lorraine Sawyers, Patricia & Tony Patton, Jacqueline & Robert Smythers, all of Galax, Sharon & Larry Spurling of Cana and Johnny & Ruthie Sawyers of Woodlawn; two brothers, Arthur Alley and Sanford Alley, both of Galax; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Friday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Monta Vista Memorial Gardens, Rt 887. The Rev. Woynal Smythers officiated.
