Richard Eugene Dahl, 77, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at his home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Dick was born January 9, 1935 in Blooming Prairie the son of Albert and Alma (Lewis) Dahl. He was baptized into faith on February 10, 1935 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie and confirmed his faith on June 4, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1953.

On February 20, 1954 he married Clarine Hammer. She passed away in March of 1977. On March 9, 1985, Dick married Shirley Clemens at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. He served as an usher at Trinity for many years along with other volunteer work at the church. He also drove cancer patients to their appointments, delivered meals-on-wheels and was a long time member of the Owatonna Eagles Club. Dick was employed a short time at Muckle Mfg. Co. and then 34 years at Hoffman Industries (Tubeco) until the plant closed in 1992. He then was employed by the Gandy Co. from January 1993 until January 2000 when he retired.

Dick enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, the Vikings, Twins and the Minnesota Gophers, but his main love was his children, step-children, grandchildren and his great grandson. Christmas was his favorite holiday when he could spend time with all his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Shirley Dahl of Owatonna; daughter, Susan (and Dan) Schuster of Owatonna; son, Brad (and Rebecca Nelson) Dahl of Owatonna; step-daughters, Bonnie (and Larry Lageson) Nelson of Owatonna; Patty (and Rick Carlson) Smith of Golden Valley; Nancy (and Duane) Martinz of Custer, SD; step-sons, Rick (and Karen) Clemens of New Hampton, IA; Bob Clemens of Petrolia, TX; sister, Arlys (and Gaylen) Severson of Bloomington; grandchildren, Genny Lawrence, Courtney, Haley, Taylor and Maddie Dahl, Ashley Thomas, Kelly Nelson, Ryan, Luke and Holly Smith, Ericca, Josh, Stephanie and Mitchell Clemens, Nicole and Matt Mulford, Krystal and Travis Clemens, Cody and Blake Martinz; great grandson, Gavin Clemens.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Clarine Dahl; parents; sons, Roger, Scott and LeRoy Dahl; brothers, Art, Roger, Maynard and David Dahl; sisters, Lorene Anderson, Helen Frisch, Eileen Ballou and Stacia Tonolli.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, July 23, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Blooming Prairie. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, Homestead Hospice House or donor's choice.
