ONE KILLED AND AUBURN BOY IS HURT IN CRASH

AUTOS HIT HEAD-ON NEAR LIGHT PLANT FRIDAY NIGHT

A head-on automobile collision near the city light plant on the Auburn highway about midnight last night resulted in the almost instant death of one man and sent an Auburn student to the East Alabama Hospital.
A. F. Rizer (sic) of Milltown, Ala. in Chambers County was killed and Kenneth Thompson of Gadsden, a student at Auburn, was sent to the hospital with a bad cut on his head and body bruises.
Thompson it is said, was in a Chevrolet car with three other Auburn students - Irvin Levi of Gadsden, football star; Paul Lantrip of Jasper and a lad called "Shorty" Williams of Columbus, Ga. According to account of the accident this car was headed toward Auburn and Mr. Rizer's car a Ford, was coming in the direction of Opelika. It was not learned which of the Auburn students was driving the Chevrolet. Williams, it is said, was injured only slightly, while the other two received only bruises.
The left front and rear wheels of the Chevrolet were crumpled under the car and the left side of the car badly damaged. The Ford was almost a complete wreck and looked as if it had smashed in like an egg-shell under the impact of the collision.
Both sheriff's officers and city police made an investigation but conflicting reports made it hard to determine just how the accident happened or who was at fault. No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
Sheriff's officers report their investigation showed the accident was unavoidable.
City police officers say the Auburn boys told them they had almost come to a stop when their car was struck by the Ford. Police officers further state that two men from Columbus saw the accident and reported to them that the Auburn boys were going at a fast rate of speed and that they crashed into Rizer's car.
It is said that Mr. Rizer had been employed with the TVA and had been stationed at Auburn for the past several months. He has a brother, a Dr. Rizer, in LaFayette.
