Walter Pickens, 56, Bergholz, was almost instantly killed at 9 a.m. Friday in a slate fall at the Warner Colleries Coal company mine in Wolf Run. He was pronounced dead when removed from the mine.
He was born in southern Ohio and had reside at Bergholz for 35 years. His wife, Mrs. Avis Pickens, died two years ago.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Kmatz, Bergholz, Mrs. Irene Constantine, Wintersville and Miss June Pickens, Bergholz. Also surviving are six grandchildren, five sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call at the Robbins Funeral Home in Bergholz. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
