Stephen E. "Jack" McPherson, 74, of Edina, Mo. passed away February 25, 1993 in the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

The son of Fred Dent and Essie Matlick McPherson, he was born January 25, 1919 at Rutledge, Mo.

He married Florence Balfour on November 4, 19945 at Kahoka, Mo. she survives.

He is also survived by: one son, Stephen Brett McPherson of LaBelle, Mo.; one daughter, Peggy Sue McPherson of Edina, Mo.; one brother, Robert McPherson of Kahoka, Mo.; two sisters, Freda Lowe of LaBelle, Mo., and Mrs. Larry (Elaine) Balfour of Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren, Joshua Douglas, Rachel Douglas and Katie McPherson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Mae McPherson; two sisters, Edna Mae McPherson, and Wilma Dean McPherson; and one brother in infancy.

Mr. McPherson was raised in the Rutledge community, where he attended the South Liberty School and the Rutledge High School.

After school he served with the Civil Conservation Corp. He then entered the United States Army and served the duration of World War II. He was employed as a mechanic, carpenter and as a heavy equipment operator, mostly in Scotland and Knox Counties in Missouri.

Mr. McPherson was a well known musician, playing many instruments, but best remembered for his violin.

He was a member of the Christian Church at Rutledge, Mo.

Funeral services were held March 1, 1993 in the Christian Church at Rutledge, Mo., with the Reverend Seth Wortman officiating. Music was provided by JoAnne Layman and Dorothy Eberle. Burial was in the South Bethel Cemetery, northwest of Rutledge, Mo.

Arrangements were handled by Hudson-Rimer Funeral chapel in Edina, Mo.
