RUTLEDGE GIRL SHOT AND KILLED BY BROTHER
RUTLEDGE, Mo., Jan. 9 [sic]. — Wilma Dean McPherson, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McPherson, who live on a farm three and one-half miles north of Rutledge, was shot and instantly killed Thursday afternoon about 3 o'clock by her small brother, Eugene McPherson, who is just past five years old.
The boy secured a .22 target rifle which was kept in the house and while playing with it, discharged it, killing his small sister. The bullet entered jut below the heart and ranged upward, death resulting almost instantly. The mother was in the house at the time but did not know the children were playing with the weapon. Mr. McPherson was in the timber some distance from the house when the accident occurred.
Mrs. McPherson rushed to the children when she heard the report of the gun and was grief stricken when she saw what had happened. There are five children in the McPherson family, one younger and two older than Eugene and Wilma. There are two children dead.
