In Memoriam
Mrs. Annie Owen, (nee Smith) was born in Gordon county, Ga., Oct. 4, 1874, and died in Adairsville, Bartow county, Ga. June 13, 1893. In child-hood and girl-hood she possessed a sunny, peaceful disposition, which won for her the admiration and love of those with whom she associated. In summer of 1886, before she was twelve years old, she was happily converted and joined the Baptist church, in which she lived a consistent Christian life till her death.
She was a faithful Sunday school scholar, a loving and obedient daughter, the joy and pride of her parents, with the circle of her friends becoming larger and her influence for good increasing as she developed into young womanhood. In her eighteenth year, on March 3, 1892, she was married to James Q. Owen, who, up to the time of his marriage, was not a professor of religion. Seven months after her marriage, she witnessed the conversion of her husband, and, with giant heart, saw him received into the Methodist church.
She was a kind, agreeable, and loving wife, and labored and planned to make the life of her husband pleasant and happy. She lived to be a devoted mother, and often caressed her bright little son, in the embraces of a mother's ancient love. To make happy the hearts of her husband, she was spared only a few months, to bless the life of her child, she lived but a short time; for on June 10th, while a babe, five weeks old, slept by her side, she was taken suddenly ill with brain fever; and soon becoming unconscious of her suffering, she lay without uttering a murmur, or word of complaint, till June the 18th, when, like the slowly sinking of the evening sun, she gently breathed her last; and her happy spirit made its peaceful flight up to join the kindred love ones who had gone on before.
She leaves a grief-stricken husband, her parents, two brothers, and a sister, with many relatives and friends who mourn on account of their earthly loss.
On July 11, the infant, (James Arthur) after one week's affliction, ceased to live on earth, and the body was laid to rest close beside that of the mother's; but the little spirit had gone to be with mother and nestle near the Great White Throne.
