Edith Abbott Gover Kidd, 94, of Danville, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011. Born October 9, 1916 in Parksville, she is the daughter of Calvin and Nancy Emeline Chambers Abbott.She was the widow of Joseph Perkins Gover and Charles Taylor Kidd. Edith graduated from Parksville High School in 1935. She earned a degree from Spencerian Business College in Louisville and for 22 years she worked for Centre College in the admissions office and later the Science Dept.Edith was a past President and Secretary of the Gamma Chapter of Delta Theta Chi. She was an active member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church and was also a member of the Faithful and True Sunday School Class. During her life she served as a Red Cross volunteer for many years, was active in the Retired Railroaders Club and was known for her cooking, especially her wonderful macaroni and cheese. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Gover (Charles) Wiltsee of Danville, Jean Gover Mudd of Louisville and Pat Gover (Bob) Shackelford of Florida; her brother, Manuel Abbott of Danville; sisters, Dorothia Abbott Record and Hazel Abbott Brant of Danville and Mrs. Hubert (Margaret) Abbott of Danville; son-in-law, Bob Rankin; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.She was predeceased by two grandchildren, D.D. Llewelyn and Beverley Llewelyn Rosenthal; a daughter, Joan Gover Rankin; two sisters, Evelyn Abbott Reed and Grace Abbott Burnside; and a brother, Hubert Abbott.The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at Lexington Ave. Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Lexington Ave. Baptist Church.
