James Orsen B. McClure was the son of Stephen and Sara Smith McClure. He was born in 1844 in Conway County Arkansas, near Greenbrier(now Faulkner County). He was on the 1860 census as 15 years old. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the 8th Confederate Calvary, Company E. This was on 1-5- 1863 in Conway County, Arkansas. Later he was transfered to Company E of the 10 th Arkansas Calvary. He was captured and taken prisoner of war . He was released and pardoned June 5, 1865. He married Alzira Ann Scarlett 11-7- 1867 in Van Buren County, Arkansas. They moved to Oil Trough in Independence County 1886. They were the parents of 6 daughters. Orin's widow, Alzira filed for a civil war pension 8-6-1901. She was granted 50 dollars a year.
