DANVILLE, Va. - Alice Lee Carter Astin, 95, of Danville, died June 9, 2006 at her residence. Born Aug. 10, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Coleman Carter and Nellie Kate Williams Carter.
She lived her entire life in the Mount Cross community of Pittsylvania County. She was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, and a graduate of Whitmell Farm Life High School.
She was married to the late James Ernest Astin Sr. on Dec. 21, 1932.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine Shelton and her husband, Lillard; two sons, James E. Aston Jr. and his wife, Ann and John Douglas Astin; three brothers, Woodrow Wilson Carter, Harry Carter and Carlton C. Carter; two grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers, Stanley Carter, Spencer Carter, Ross Carter, Henry Carter, Warren Carter, and Charles Carter; and one sister, Gertrude Blair.
Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
