Fountain, Maxine SCOTIA Maxine Fountain, 88, of Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2012. Born in Erie, Pa., daughter of Mary and Oscar Carlson, she graduated from Villa Maria College in Erie. Following her graduation, she taught business English at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. She met her husband Roy in Erie and they were married on August 6, 1949. They moved to Schenectady in 1952. Maxine was a constant source of support to Roy as he started his own consulting firm. Maxine's life centered around her love for and devotion to her family. She looked forward to family gatherings, large and small, with great joy. Hearing about the activities and accomplishments of her five children and three grandchildren was always a source of happiness and pride to her. She was an avid card player, and was an active member of several bridge groups in the community. She shared her husband's interest in gardening, and took special delight in the roses, dahlias and other flowers that bloomed around their home. Maxine was a devoted communicant at the Church of the Immaculate Conception and served for a number of years as a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to residents of the Baptist Retirement Home. She also volunteered at the American Cancer Society and a local soup kitchen in Schenectady. Survivors include her children, Mary Blakeslee, Susan Fountain, Lewis Fountain, Stephen Fountain, and Betsy Knowles and her husband Glenn; her grandchildren, Bryan Blakeslee, Kaylee Knowles, and Meredith Knowles; her brother, Donald Carlson of Erie, Pa.; her sister, Helen Carlson of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Roy; and by her brothers, John, Eugene, Robert and Martin Carlson. The family wishes to thank Maxine's doctors, especially Dr. Earl Zimmerman and Dr. Joseph Hayes, for their expertise and caring attention. The family is also grateful to Schenectady County Hospice for their support. Special thanks go to all of Maxine's home-based caregivers, especially those from Interim Health Care, whose skill, sensitivity and compassion made it possible for Maxine to live out her days with dignity in the comfort of her home. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Scotia, on Wednesday, June 27 at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Mausoleum, Glenville.
