Caring Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather Martin Eric Carlson, 85, of Girard, died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at St. Mary's Home following a brief illness. Born February 28, 1925, in Erie, he was the youngest of seven children of the late Oscar and Mary Carlson. Martin graduated from Strong Vincent High School and attended Gannon College. Martin was a veteran in the United States Navy, serving as a Navy Corpsman in the Pacific Theater during World War II, where he was wounded, and later serving in the Korean War. Following his military service Martin worked in the finance industry, was self-employed, and worked as a security officer at the Erie County Home and St. Mary's Home, until his retirement. In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Muriel Carlson and by three of his brothers, Jack, Eugene and Robert. He is survived by his brother, Donald, of Erie and two sisters, Helen Carlson, of Alexandria, Va. and Maxine Fountain, of Scotia, N.Y. He is also survived by two daughters: Cynthia Heise and her husband, Thomas of Glen Dale, W.Va. and Nancy McMahon and her husband, Bill of Cranesville; and three sons: Martin Carlson and his wife, Alice of Mechanicsburg, Eric Carlson and his wife, Chris of St. Louis, Mo,, and Gregory Carlson and his wife, Christina of Delran, N.J. In addition, Martin is survived by 13 grandchildren: William, Michael and Gregory McMahon, Thomas and Rebecca Heise, Christy Heise Mosa, Laura, Sara, Jenna, Rachel, Emily, Beth and Lily Carlson; and six great-grandchildren: Haylee, Michael and Eric McMahon, Kaden Mosa and Sophia and Claire Heise. Martin was also a caring uncle to Barry and Susie Smith and many other nieces and nephews. Private funeral arrangements are being handled by the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508. Memorials may be made to the A.F.
