The Daily Notes, Canonsburg PA, Thursday 14 September 1905, front page - ALMOST REACHED GOLDEN WEDDING -- Mrs. Ellen Kerr Guthrie, Who Died This Morning, Was Married 50 Years Ago -- MOTHER OF TEN CHILDREN -- MRS. ELLEN KERR GUTHRIE, wife of ROBERT GUTHRIE, died this morning at her home, 101 Central Avenue, South Canonsburg, after a lingering illness. Some time ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which she never recovered. Mrs. Guthrie was in the seventy-first year of her age, and had she lived until October 27 she would have been married just fifty years. Her maiden name was Kerr. Before moving to Canonsburg the family lived for many years on a farm in Chartiers Township, Mr. Guthrie being engaged in agriculture. Mrs. Guthrie was a member of the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie, nine of whom survive. These are: JAMES GUTHRIE, South Canonsburg; JOHNSON GUTHRIE, Bishop; MRS. W. K. THOMPSON, MRS. JOHN W. HENRY, MRS. D. W. CLYDE, Canonsburg; MRS. PATTERSON COWDEN, Houston; MRS. GEORGE WILSON, near Burgettstown, and IRENE, at home. The funeral will take place from the Guthrie home on Saturday afternoon, September 16, at 11 o’clock.
