Son of James Guthrie and Agnes Johnston. Robert married Ellen Kerr on 27 Sep 1855.

The Daily Notes, Canonsburg PA, Monday 08 July 1912, front page - ROBERT GUTHRIE REACHED RIPE AGE - Passes Away After Long Illness, in His 89th Year. Was Well Known -- ROBERT GUTHRIE, age 88 years, formerly a farmer in Chartiers Township and well known in this vicinity, died at his home in South Central Avenue Saturday evening at 5:30 o'clock from general debility due to his age. Mr. Guthrie had been in ill health for some time but did not take his bed until about four weeks ago. Mr. Guthrie was the son of JAMES and AGNES GUTHRIE and was born in Allegheny County March 10, 1824. Nearly 35 years ago he removed to Chartiers Township and about 20 years ago moved to Canonsburg. He is survived by the following children: R. J. GUTHRIE of Chartiers Township; MRS. I. T. COWDEN, Mt. Pleasant Township; MRS. W. K. THOMPSON, Canonsburg; MRS. GEORGE WILSON, Washington; MRS. A. W. CLYDE, Canonsburg; MRS. H. G. VANCE, Carnegie; MRS. SARAH HENRY, Canonsburg, and IRENE GUTHRIE, at home. A son, JAMES, died two years ago. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at o'clock from the home and will be conducted by the Rev. W. P. Aikin, pastor of the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Oak Spring Cemetery.
