Longtime Resident— of Logan, Utah, Mildred Bird, 80 died Wednesday, December 2nd, 1998, at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah, from an extended illness. Mildred, often called Millie, was born September 29th, 1918, at home in Mendon, Utah, to Clarence Perley and Ina Sorensen Bird. Her mother died March 4th, 1929. After the death of her mother, Mildred was raised by her stepmother, Ruth Leatham Humphrey Bird. Later a sister, Dolores, was born, then a brother, Clarence Lee, and sister, Margaret Ann, were born. Mildred graduated from South Cache High School and L.D.S. Seminary in 1936. She was a member of the L.D.S. Church. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Utah State Aggies and the Utah Jazz. She also enjoyed local sports events. Mildred was an independent lady who earned her living cleaning apartments and homes for over fifty years. Mildred volunteered her time and energy helping wherever she could. She received an award honoring her unselfish contributions during National History Week from Utah State University's Women's Advisory Board in 1986. Mildred has received awards as volunteer of the week for her consistent efforts and dependability in helping at the Senior Citizens Center on several occasions. She also did volunteer work at the Sunshine Terrace for several years. We will dearly miss our sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ina; stepmother, Ruth; and brother, Lee Bird. She is survived by her siblings, Phillip Humphrey, Logan, Dolores Geddes, Preston, Idaho, and Ann Rasmussen, Clinton, Utah and their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews; also a special friend, Becky Blanchard, whom Mildred cared for as a child. Funeral services will be at noon, Monday, December 7th, in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center St., Logan, where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday prior to services. Burial will be in the Mendon Cemetery. ~The Herald Journal, December 4th, 1998, page 4.
