Joseph was the sixth child of eleven. About 1851, he moved with his father's family to Beaver Township, Noble County, Ohio.

Joseph 10 appears on the 1860 census, Williamsburg, Beaver, Noble County, Ohio, with parents and siblings James W 22, Thomas 17, Mary 15, Margaret 12, William E 7, George 4 and Samuel 2. They reside adjacent to his married brother Mordicai Warner 19 and wife Cidna E 20 and their daughter Ann 2.

He married Sarah Ruth Mercer/Messer, June 7,1870, they had four children including a son who died at birth 1874.

Widowed in 1879, he married Rose/Rosy Ann Hill, 1879, Wetzel County, West Virginia.

Widowed again in 1907, he married widow Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Smith- Kolbe in 1908, Hamilton County, Ohio.

They lived in "Mudsock" community,Chestnut Hill between Letart and Mount Alto.
Joseph's death certificate indicates he lived in Millwood.
Family indicate he had a sheep farm, grew produce and had a blacksmith shop.
