James Otis Fortney, Jr., resident of Ponca City, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at his residence. He was 81.
The memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
James was born on September 29, 1930 to the late James Otis Fortney Sr. and the late Irena Jeanett Smith in Nelagoney, OK. He was married to Sylvia Daugherty on July 21, 1955 in Miami, Oklahoma. They would of celebrated there 57years together next month.
He enjoyed listening to the police scanner and playing solitary on the computer.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Fortney, of the home; four daughters, Rita Costello of Fairfax, Oklahoma, Diana Calvert and her husband, David of Empire, Colorado, Lavelda Fortney of Idaho Spring, Colorado, Danita Kollars of Vinita, Oklahoma; tree brothers, Lonnie, David, and Darwin Fortney, all of Pawhuska; six sister, Dorothy, Sue, Mavis, Deed, Nancy, and Sissy, all of Pawhuska; twenty one grand children, fifty three great grand children, one great great grand child; and numerous of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Irene Forney; one daughter, Serritta Martin; one son, James Fortney; one grandson, Aaron Kollars; five sisters; three brothers; and numerous of nieces and nephews.
