Clifford V. Long, 77, of Iona, Idaho, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, businessman, and civic leader passed away on January 4, 2002. He was born on June 18, 1924 to John William Long and Eugenie Virgin. He had an older sister and three older brothers. He attended school in Rexburg, Boise and Bancroft, was senior class president at Madison High School, and participated in football, basketball, and track. At the age of 17, he entered the Navy and Marine Corps and served three years as a medic corpsman. This service gave him the opportunity to see most of the islands in the Western Pacific, from Australia to Japan. After completing his military duty, he returned to Rexburg where he married Evadean Forsgren on June 4, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had five children. He ran a service station in Ashton for four years. He later worked as an independent distributor for Continental Baking Company and Frito Lay. He also owned a craft, floral and ceramic business, and served as Bonneville County Commissioner for 14 years. He had a great love of country and was described as being "The Gentleman of the Century." He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served aa counselor in the bishopric, as bishop, as high counselor, and as counselor in the stake presidency. He was a man of faith who tried to follow the Savior's example in all aspects of his life. After retiring, Cliff served on the Iona City Council, as Republican Party Chairman, and was the driving force in the creation of the Idaho Innovation Center. He loved to work in the yard, watch BYU football games, relish the Utah Jazz victories, and go camping. Mostly, he wanted to be a grandpa for his 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He set a lasting example by working hard, persevering, serving others, and honoring all of his obligations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mark, sister Francis, son Steve, and granddaughter Katie. Funeral services were held January 8, 2002, at Iona 2nd Ward, Ririe Hwy at Iona Rd, with Bishop Ken Wrightson officiating. Military rites were performed by Bonneville County Veterans Team.
