Evan V. Long 1916 ~ 2004

Evan V. Long, beloved husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend returned peacefully to his loving Heavenly Father on August 11, 2004 at the age of 88, after an extended illness. Evan was born July 21, 1916, in Rexburg, Idaho to John W. and Eugenie Virgin Long and was a very talented and hard-working man. He met his sweetheart, Gwen Bowman while attending Idaho State College. They fell in love and married on Gwen's birthday, May 26, 1938. They resided in Pocatello, Idaho until 1961, and then moved to Salt Lake City.

Following Gwen's death, he married Wanda Allen, September 26, 1987. She also preceded him in death. Evan later married Barbara Boehme, December 6, 1996. Evan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held many positions, including callings in the Scouting program, and was an Eagle Scout himself. He enjoyed working in the temple and family history work. He was a master of his trade of carpentry and had built numerous prominent structures and buildings throughout Utah and Idaho. He was also an active member of the Carpenter's Union for over 50 years. Evan also had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Long; three children, Brent Evan (Shirlene) Long of Shelley, Idaho; Joyce (C. Richard) Myers of Chubbuck, Idaho; and Dennis Ray (Peggy) Long of West Jordan, Utah; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and brother Grant V. Long. Preceded in death by his grandson, Kip Long and 15 brothers and sisters. Services honoring Evan's life will be held Monday, August 16, 2004, 12:00 noon at Jordan Oaks Stake Center, 8035 S. Leslie Dr., West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd, West Jordan, Utah, and one hour prior to services.
