Mrs. Richardson was born in Hickory, NC, on October 3, 1932, a daughter of the late John Washington Reece and the late Mattie Beatrice Green Reece. She had lived her entire life in Ringgold, VA, and had worked for Disston for several years and as a homemaker. On February 18, 1951 she married Hugh Gordon Richardson, Sr., he died on July 28, 2006. She was a member of Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church and in her later years attended First Independent Methodist Church. She also enjoyed playing Bingo.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Hugh Gordon Richardson, Jr., two brother, James Reece and Ray Reece, and two sisters, Margie Guill and Fay Griffith.

Survivors include a son, Donald Richardson and wife, Shelia, of Ringgold, VA; a daughter, Joan R. Barksdale, of Ringgold, VA; a former daughter-in-law, Susan Gauldin, three sisters, Hazel Gammon, Mildred Sullivan and Jean Niday, all of Danville, VA
