Willene Carter Monroe, 81, of Cobbtown died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Candler County Hospital. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Carter and Essie Mae Taylor Carter. Willene received a nursing degree from Swainsboro Tech and retired in 1990 from Candler County Hospital after 30 years of employment. She loved to cook and was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
 She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Monroe; two children, Linda and Buddy Monroe; sisters, Essie Ree Brantley, Ruby Lynn and Onita Hutchinson; brothers, Talmadge, Otis, Homer, M.A., Howard, and Elton Carter.
 Survivors are a sister, Marion C. Davis of Jacksonville; a brother, Roger Carter of Metter; step-sisters, Vondell Blaxton of Johnson Corner and Eunice Collins of Lyons; a step-brother, Aaron Sewell of Cobbtown; many loving nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services were held Tuesday, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Elder Tommy McGee officiating. Burial was in the Sunlight Cemetery.
 Pallbearers were Bart Lynn, Ronny Carter, Kelvin Hutchinson, Josh Powell, Danny Carter and Jerry Carter.
 Honorary pallbearers were retired nurses from Candler County Hospital.
 Remembrances can be made to the charity of your choice.
