Wilbur Ray Sigmund, 79, of Holton, KS, died October 12, 1998, at the Holton Community Hospital.

He was born April 30, 1919, on a farm near Wetmore, KS, the son of George and Laura R. Martin Sigumnd. He graduated from Bushy Slope rural school, Wetmore High School, and aircraft school in Wichita, KS.

He was a farmer and stockman most of his life on the family farm south of Wetmore. He moved to Holton in 1990. He also worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, and North American Aircraft in Kansas City.

He was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church at Holton, KS, and a former member of the Pleasant Grove Church. He served on the Bushy Slope School Board, the Nemaha County Fair Board, the Wetmore Township Board, and was a 4-H leader. He also served on the Wetmore Fire Board for 27 years, where he was past president. He enjoyed many sports and was an avid quail hunter.

He was married to Ruth Hower on May 25, 1944, near Birmingham. She survives.

Other survivors are son, Galen R. Sigmund, Holton, KS; daughter, Laurita R. Morris, Holton, KS; sisters, Ruth Wikle, Morrill, KS; Ethel Pletzer, Turner, OK; four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter Sigmund; and grandson, David R. Sigmund.

Funeral services were held at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, KS. Burial was in the Netawaka Cemetery, Netawaka, KS.
