HOLTON – Galen R. Sigmund, 63, of Holton passed away Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Holton Community Hospital. He was born July 1, 1946 in Holton, KS the son of Wilbur Ray and Ruth Hower Sigmund. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1965. He was a lifelong member of the Jackson County community and retired after many years as a produce manager for several local grocery stores. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid KU fan. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. Galen married Rose Heim on October 30, 1965 in Holton. She survives. Other survivors include his mother Ruth Sigmund of Holton; a daughter, Randee Balocca (Mark) of Holton; a son, Scott Sigmund (Michelle) of Topeka; a sister, Laurita Morris (Steve) of Holton; five grandchildren, Brett Balocca, Thomas Noble, Baylie, Tanner and Logan Sigmund. He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Ray Sigmund. Cremation is planned. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Heart of Jackson Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
