Samuel Wilson was born in South Carolina, May 15, 1785; moved and settled in Livingston County, Ky., in 1792 where he lived several years. He then removed to Ballard County, where, on the 3 of June, 1861 he ended his earthly pilgrimage in the full assurance of a blessed immortality. Father Wilson came to this country when it was a wilderness.
He was one of the first settlers and for many years his house was the regular preaching place for the Methodists, and in him they always found a true friend, and with him a kind and pleasant home. He professed religion about 1825 i8n the corn field by himself, and soon after connected himself with the Methodist Church, of which he lived a devoted and consistent member until the day of his death. He was one of the most consistent, practical, every day Christians with whom I have ever met. In his death the Church has lost a member whose place will be hard to fill, the world has lost a benefactor, his family a kind father, and his neighbors their best friend, while heaven has gained a redeemed spirit to assist in chanting the praises of him who hath loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.
Then sleep on, Sainted one, Till he shall big you arise, To bail him in triumph Descending the skies.
