Geraldine Farrar Fite, the 12th child born to Dr. Berry Wilson Fite and Hortense Theresa (Thibadeau) Fite, was born on Tuesday, March 31, 1914 in her father's home on Fite Bend Road in Resaca, Georgia. Her father named Geraldine was named after the well known opera singer, Geraldine Farrar, who sang in the early 1900's and who Dr. Fite loved to listen to. Dr. Fite called his daughter, Geraldine, "June Bug" when she was little.
Geraldine grew up there on her parent's farm on Fite Bend Road in Resaca. Geraldine attended Weldon's Bend School for one year in the 1919/20 school year and then Resaca Grade schools and Calhoun Grade Schools.

Geraldine was married twice: first, in 1936, to Rufus K. Neal; and then in 1969 to Charles V. Claycomb.

Friday, April 25, 2008 Mrs. Geraldine Fite Claycomb, age 94 of Calhoun died Thursday evening at 7:45 PM in the Peachtree Christian Hospice Center of Duluth. Geraldine was born March 31, 1914 daughter of the late Dr. Berry W. Fite and Hortense Thibadeau Fite. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rufus Neal and second husband, C.D. Claycomb. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun. She is survived by two daughters, Theresa Neal McGlon and her husband Pat of Atlanta and Odessa Neal Wright and her husband Jim of Forsyth; three grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Graveside and interment services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday April 26th. from the Fain Cemetery with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 P.M. until the funeral hour on Saturday prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
