Ruth attended the BAC in Cedar City, and BYU in Provo, where she obtained a teaching degree. She taught in the Millard County School District until the family moved to Salt Lake City in 1964. There, she taught in the Granite School District at the old Monroe School, and then at Jackling Elementary until her retirement in 1982. She shaped many young lives in her 35 years of teaching.
Ruth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. She also served a mission in 1985-86 in the Fresno California mission. Ruth will always be remembered for her great compassion. Her home was known as the "Abegglen Motel," where many friends and family stayed, whether for a few days or a few months.
Ruth is survived by her children: Rex (Leslie), Ogden; Adele (Mark) Gardner, Bakersfield, CA; Mark, West Valley City; LeAnn, Taylorsville; brother: Wayne (Pat) Banks, Washington; sisters: Maurene Jones, Milford; Gladys Banks, Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Herbert, an infant daughter Linda, granddaughter Cheri Gardner, and brothers DeLong and Fred Banks.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2006, 1:00 p.m. at the Taylorsville 8th Ward Building, 1495 West Tamarack Road (4567 South). A viewing will be held at the Church on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday one hour prior to the services. Interment at Redwood Memorial Estates.
