Vessie Jane Hawkins was the third of four children born to Plummer Oscar Hawkins (1872-1927) and his wife Minnie Jane Carpenter (1882-1957). She was first married to Walter Crowell Thompson on 20 Dec. 1924 in Stanly Co., NC. They had twin daughters, Mary Crowell and Minnie Cornelia, born prematurely who died in infancy. Vessie subsequently married Ray R. Ritchie, and they lived at 1800 Kensington Drive, Charlotte, NC. Vessie died of lung cancer at the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
