Info from Letecia Drake

"Served in the Army from 1861-1865 only for a short while according to Maude Gallion in a letter to her grandson(Clarence Lee Hanshew) he was discharged when they found out he had a large family to support. According to Maude he was more than part Indian and looked it too. She said he was supposed to get a portion of land for farming and a house from the government because he was Indian but he couldn’t produce the papers to prove what tribe he was of or who his parents were so they only gave him a small farm. Maude said he was Cherokee and his parents died when he was a little boy. He was near 107 when he died. Must’ve had a stroke years earlier because she said he was paralyzed from his body down and his hands and was in bed or a chair for years."
